Saw eight other runners. That’s about a quarter of usual. The wind was blowing so hard that I could see the ice being pushed through the water.

I missed my run on Monday because we drove back from New York, and because it rained all day. I try not to get uptight about missing runs so I can stay away from the crazy category.

This really happened through Mt. Hope Park, and just ended where it’s shown on the map. I know it was four miles because I used my Garmin Forerunner 405.

I definitely have 30-itis. My knee was bothering me a bit and my calves were sore. Sheesh.

Purple Cow, by Seth Godin
An awesome sequel to Crossing the Chasm, Purple Cow is about your only chance to reach the Early Majority.
According to Seth Godin, targeting that great big, beautiful center of the distribution curve with millions of dollars worth of mass media, used to be a great idea… when everyone had enough time to sit around and soak it in. The old virtuous cycle used to be: Advertise -> Sell More...
Google Docs
So I logged into my Google Docs to record my miles, as usual. I got the following message.
New! Upload anything
Now you can upload all your files without converting them to Google Docs.
You can use Google Docs to open these files anywhere and share them with anyone.
Um, wasn’t this an obvious improvement on Google Docs? Let me use it as file storage. Upload my docx, xlsx, pptx, etc....

Swam 23, 50 m laps in 30:50 (yesterday).
The Speedo swimming goggles that I got in November, and have used probably a dozen times, ripped on me. The seal around the plastic lens came off. Isn’t Speedo supposed to be quality? At any rate, I took them back to the front desk at the Z Center where I bought them and they gave me a new pair.

Running Week End
This running week (currently Mondays - Saturdays) I ran 19.6 miles. That’s the farthest I’ve run in a week since the week ending July 25th, when I ran 19.9 miles. That was my first rest week, my first race, the week I actually believed that I was going to qualify for Boston, and the week that set me up to hurt my knee.
Six months later, I’m struggling to get back to half of my...

4x10 pullups @ 55,45,35,25
Swam 8, 50 m laps in 10:29. Shared a lane with a girl who, I swear, lapped me four times.

Crossing the Chasm
I just finished Crossing the Chasm, by Geoffrey A. Moore. My friend, Josh Deifel, gave it to me. Of course, I lost the copy he gave to me in the move, so I had to buy another copy. Of course, I left that purchased copy on the plane, so the copy I just finished is checked out from the library.
Instead of describing the premise, I found a picture of it on the internet, and pasted it below. Are you...

Thoughts during the run:
The hardest thing about running for me is what I call “Save it for Saturday.” I always have a training schedule. It entails gradually increasing my weekly mileage and my long run mileage. It’s built around the runner’s rule of 10%: you shouldn’t try to increase your weekly or long run mileage by more than about 10% per...
This video starts slow, but before the end becomes the cutest video of all time.

Skipped my upper workout today because my friend, Martins Blums, wrecked me last night on the squash court. I lost, four games to zero.

Swam 9, 50 m laps in 11:23. I shared a lane with a lady, easily in her 60’s (sorry ma’am), who passed me at least three times and politely asked me to stay on my half of the lane. I’m sort of a fish out of water over there.

Really only 4.3 miles. Google maps doesn’t have the running exit off Longfellow Bridge, so it sends the route on a few loops.
Longest run since 12/12/9. Knees felt OK. Toward the end, a little tickle right under the left knee cap. I think that means that 4.3 is my about my upper limit right now.

Disqus: Why you should →
This is a link to Fred Wilson’s blog, www.avc.com. My sister, Lizzy, and I are trying to figure out what the real advantages are of using Disqus comments on our blogs.
My favorite thought: Add people to your threads, not just faceless, nameless, untrackable comments.

Pullups: 4x10 55,45,35,25 (that’s the weight that offset my body weight on each set). Had to break up the last set (the 25 lb set).

Back Extensions: 1x20
I was wondering today during my run: can I really get in the habit of posting every workout I do? I don’t think I have the endurance for that. But then, I am able to get...

Confession
Last February I weighed 184 lbs, and I don’t know how many inches my waist was at its greatest circumference, but it wasn’t good.
In October 2009 I weighed 161 lbs. and my waist was 33 inches at its greatest circumference.
This morning, 1/4/10, I weighed 171 lbs. and my waist was almost 37 inches.
<sigh>
This holiday season did a number on me. My sister, Lizzy, and her...

Qualify for Boston
I ran just over 500 miles in 2009. About 300 of that came when I was trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon. When I was six weeks into my training, I raced a 10k to see what my VDOT score was. That was supposed to give me some indication of whether I was on track. VDOT scores are used to predict race times based on actual race times. My 10k time was 41:05, which is a VDOT score 51. A VDOT score...
