It was snowing. The view from the Boston side of the river was awesome. Low visibility. Everything was white, including the river.

<sigh>

Saw eight other runners. That’s about a quarter of usual. The wind was blowing so hard that I could see the ice being pushed through the water.

I missed my run on Monday because we drove back from New York, and because it rained all day. I try not to get uptight about missing runs so I can stay away from the crazy category.

This really happened through Mt. Hope Park, and just ended where it’s shown on the map. I know it was four miles because I used my Garmin Forerunner 405.

I definitely have 30-itis. My knee was bothering me a bit and my calves were sore. Sheesh.

Swam 23, 50 m laps in 30:50 (yesterday).

The Speedo swimming goggles that I got in November, and have used probably a dozen times, ripped on me. The seal around the plastic lens came off. Isn’t Speedo supposed to be quality? At any rate, I took them back to the front desk at the Z Center where I bought them and they gave me a new pair.

Running Week End

This running week (currently Mondays - Saturdays) I ran 19.6 miles. That’s the farthest I’ve run in a week since the week ending July 25th, when I ran 19.9 miles. That was my first rest week, my first race, the week I actually believed that I was going to qualify for Boston, and the week that set me up to hurt my knee.

Six months later, I’m struggling to get back to half of my normal workouts.

Also, Next week I’m changing my running week from Mondays - Saturdays to Wednesdays - Mondays. What’s the difference?

My running week consists of four normal running days, followed by one rest day, followed by a long run day, followed by a rest day. Forever I’ve been running Monday - Thursday, resting Friday, running Saturday, and resting Sunday. But with the semester beginning in a few weeks, I need to find a schedule that fits better with school. The beginning of the week always seems to be the heaviest part, so shifting my runs to have a rest day on Tuesdays makes sense. Also, Tuesdays and Thursdays I have a class that starts at 8:30, and MWF I have don’t have class until 10:00. So with my new running schedule, there will only be one day where I have to leave the house before the sun rises to run, stretch, eat, and get to class.

Leaving before the sun rises is beautiful in the summer, but in the winter its just masochistic. The river is frozen solid, and the wind whips down it something fierce. Not to mention that the best place to see the sun rise is the first 3/4 mile of my run because the sun rises over the city, and from my side of the river it’s just amazing every day. So I like to leave at sunrise, not before.
